Application/Service Conditions
Initial valve installation was a manual block valve application in a natural gas gathering system immediately off of a natural gas well. Some of these well streams include sour / corrosive media requiring materials of construction suitable for NACE service. The customer uses multiple valve sizes in manual and automated configurations in these applications. The customer determined, after initial test / evaluation, the internal stationary Core protected the seats from potential minimizing damage from higher velocities and services that could possibly include entrained solids.
The first Hemiwedge® valves were tested in March 2008. Eventually the Hemiwedge® valves were installed in more demanding, higher flow applications including produced natural gas service including entrained sand. In the case of the ESD (Emergency Shut Down) applications, the valve is required to close and seal bubble tight in emergency conditions to isolate flow from well into gathering systems. With the internal Core of the Hemiwedge® valve providing better protection of the seat/seals, and the significantly reduced hydrodynamic torque, the Hemiwedge® valve design provides the operation dependability and reliability demanded for ESD services.
